From Those Who Loved Him

When I first had the great pleasure of meeting Allan I felt as though I was looking into the face of God. Allan had the most amazing ability to treat each person with dignity, respect and without judgement, only unconditional love. His face radiated the love of the Father to every person he met. His infectious love of life and joy gave us a glimpse of the Father's loving playfulness. Meeting Allan was a turning point in my relationship with my Lord. I saw the Father's unconditional love in the person of Allan poured out on anyone who had the blessing of being in his presence.
I have fond memories of camp at CRC with my children and they of course loved Allan and Ilsa.
I know we will all miss not having Allan physically present with us any longer, but I know we will hear his voice as he whispers lovingly in our ears that which the Father wants us to know. And of course his precious memory will always be in our hearts. I know that when we leave this earth Allan will be there to welcome us into the eternal love of the Father.

Dear Eunice and family I pray the Father wraps you in His comfort and love during the sad times your heart will encounter and that you will be bathed in only the grace He can provide. I pray the memory of Allan's goodness, laugher and joy will fill your hearts and make you smile. My blessings on you all. Kathy Ivanoff

Our hearts are broken to know that we won't be seeing Allan again at CRC, in person, but our hearts are also rejoicing to know that Allan is now totally healed and in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ-the One that you could always see in Allan's life! He prayed blessings over our lives on several occasions and he was such a prayer warrior - during our weeks at summer camp there at CRC, we would go, early to pray at the rotunda, and Allan would always be there praying when we arrived.

We are so glad that he and Eunice were together when he passed away -we love you Eunice and know that our prayers are with you and the family at this time! Love & Blessings, Linda and Gary Palmer

It is with a heavy heart but also with the knowledge that Allan was truly a 'favored one of the Lord' that we hear of his 'graduation'. I (Kathy) just got back Friday--a week ago-- from being overseas a month, and George mentioned Saturday about calling and coming to visit you both. I was not yet on this time physically, and so I demurred. Now I so wish that we had called, and at least heard both of your voices one more time. You both have been like family to us. And we love you.
We grieve with you and for you, for I know that even with the celebration of no more suffering, and Allan being with the Lord, there is a heavy heart for his presence as husband (and father).
We just got the card, and were getting online to leave a message, when we saw the update.
Truly you both changed our lives. Allan's love was always shining forth as a true light of Jesus. We enjoyed our conversations and times together since we have been back in the Portland area so much. Words cannot say. What a beautiful way the Lord chose to bring him home.  We love you, Eunice, George and Kathy Reis

I have looked over the years that I have known Allan Hansen. He has been the one pastor who I remember with such joy and peace because of his wonderful laughter and the simple way he spoke and the tears of joy that he shed. Allan, I will miss you, but I am so grateful that I saw you before all this took place. Thank you for being my friend. To the Hansen family: You are loved very deeply and I appreciate you all for your dedication to this wonderful man of God, who so mirrored the image of Christ in his manner that people fell in love with him instantly. Thank you all and my God give you the peace and joy of the same kind of memories I have had. Irene Wells

Some years ago Allan precided over myself and my husband at a V's Day Marriage retreat, as we renewed our marriage vows. We'd been married in a small civil ceremony, never married by a pastor. This being a second, blended marriage (7 kids), we were experiencing all the associated difficulties.

The way Allan spoke to us, so fatherly and full of faith, was not only touching but encouraging for us to not give up and to press through. He pulled out his guitar after and we sang some simple love songs to Jesus after. I was crying.

Today Glenn and I celebrate 17 years of marriage, 20 years of relationship. Our children are all grown, we have 13 grandchildren.

...and I am so blessed to have known Allan and Eunice, and pray for comfort and peace for all the family and friends... Joy, Nola Smith

Oh, what a shock! We are praying for your family. We know that Allan is in the presence of Almighty God, and we rejoice in this. We thank the Lord that he did not have to suffer. Allan fought his illness with courage and dignity, and now he has found ultimate peace.

Now we pray for the peace and comfort that only God can give you, Eunice, and the rest of the family. What an impact Allan's life has made for the Glory of God! We are very grateful to have known such a wonderfully loving and genuine representative of Christ our Lord! Allan is a very special man and will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.

We are praying that the peace of God will overshadow you, and that He will give you the grace and strength to make it through this most difficult time.

Much love in Christ, Jay, Jaylin, Alexis, and Eric

Wow, what a rich and blessed life Allan had. I know that for as long as I can remember he was like a grandpa to me. When I was nine years old he baptized me; what a joy that was.

Allan's life spoke of the love and care of the Lord. He lived as a servant to many, never selfishly asking of anything. I will forever treasure the memories and love that was shared at CRC. It will always be a special "home" to me, and part of the reason is because of the open arms that Allan and Eunice, and the entire Hansen family, welcomed me with each year. Love and Hugs, Lindsey

What a beautiful way to enter into the Lord's presence ... in the arms of the one that you love.

While our hearts grieve with yours, we are so thankful to have known Allan for 19 years. Several of our children had the privilege to be baptized by Allan in the creek, and we will always treasure those memories.

We thank the Lord for Allan, and for the rest of your family. You have blessed our lives in so many ways. Love & Prayers, Jim & Laurel Gregg, Cassie, Jeremiah, Carissa, Lindsey, Josh, Ben, Jacob, Hosanna, Sarah, Josiah, Rachel, & Elijah

Wow!! I am so sorry to hear of Allan's homecoming (homegoing?). I had just received the postcard in today's mail alerting me of his illness. I was checking the blog to see if there was updated info. I had the privilege of meeting Allan when I spent a couple days at CRC on a personal retreat. I appreciated his hospitality (as well as that of Eunice) and hearing a little bit about how CRC came to be. The couple days spent at CRC was such a blessing. What a great man of God. I pray for the family that the Lord would be very close to you during these days as you grieve but also as you celebrate such a wonderful life!! Blessings!! Dan

It is with tears this morning that I heard the news of Allen going on to be with the Lord. The tears are of deep joy imagining him completely whole and free in the presence of Jesus, but also tears of loss, he was such an amazing man of God here in the earth. What an influence and father he was to us all. From the Wolfe family here in Bend Oregon, please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all during this time of adjustments. We are forever grateful for the ministry of CRC, and all of you. {HUGE HUG} and much love, Phil, Jill, Whitney, Jordan, Jessica, Stephanie and Levi Wolfe

What a tremendous heritage he gave us all. And what a legacy he left. And now, as dear Allan is face-to-face with His LORD and God, he will definitely be hearing those words, "WELL DONE, MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT. ENTER INTO THE JOY OF THE LORD." Jon and Ann Dunagan

I remember Pastor gently counseling me and reassuring me that I wasn’t at fault for being so uncertain about everything when Dad left to go overseas to work. Pastor had a way of lifting self-imposed guilt and I am forever grateful. He made such a big difference in my life.

Thank you for all you have done for not only us but for a multitude of people with whom contact may have been lost through the years. You both made a marvelous difference for thousands when you consider the “down line” for each of us. And through it all, the name of our God is glorified.

And now I've heard Pastor has reached heaven before the rest of us. Eunice, know that you are loved by many of us who are praying for you and family. Sent with much love from us both, Carolyn Lundring Roberts and  Barbara Lundring Prete

I didn't know Allan well, but I remember him. I remember CRC, I remember homemade bread, and I remember singing prayers around the table. He was a part of supplying a weary YWAMer with rest (and good food) more than once. I was blessed by his life! Jon D.

Pastor Alan was always a treasure to me. From the time I was a little girl, he was the closest thing to Jesus that I ever knew. I will never forget the hugs I received in the courtyard at St. Pauls, when Pastor was still dressed in his pastoral robes, but always had his arms outstretched to give a hug. I can hear him laughing as I write this. Pastor Alan was a treasure to my whole family, Elmer and Hazel Larsen's tribe, and I know that they are excitedly welcoming him now and celebrating the Lord God in ways we can only imagine here.  Margie Larsen Dow

From all of the folks in Bethlehem Community who were the recipients of the great heart of hospitality of Allan Hansen for so many years, our thoughts , prayers and gratitude are with Eunice and all of the Hansen family. All of our hearts are turned to the CRC families at this time , may you find His peace and consolations. Remember our love. Jack Sharpe for the members of Bethlehem

Goodbye my dear friend! The world will miss your love and faith that you spread amongst us. Thank you for everything you left us to learn. I pray for the family. I chearish the memories, and I am happy that you've moved on to be in the full grace of God. And thank you for bringing me closer to Him! Michelle Gonzalez

Our hearts go out to Eunice and family. We all loved Allan so much. That he is with God, seeing His face, is so amazing. And, we will see him again! Love Bob & Deb Rabourn

Hearing the news of Pastor Allan's passing brought on a flood of fond memories of the summer of 1976 that I spent there working with all of you. Such an important influence on my soul.
So many look back and wonder "what if". I look back and say "only because"!
Thanks to all of you and Pastor Allan for the guidance given without question. Pastor Allan is in great company and we look forward to meeting him there! Peace and love to all of you! Heidi Schiffer (Lenschow) and family

Many remember the Sinclairs, & how my mom would stay every summer @ CRC with nearly all of her 12 kids in the early 70s. If CRC was never established I wonder if I would still be able to witness nearly everyone in my family walking with the Lord today!!! I had pastor Allan's instant approval when he first met Charlie, and later when he agreed to stand in for my father, and gave me away up the hill @ the little chapel. What a day it was!

No words can describe the treasured experience it has been to have known, and been loved by Pastor Allan! His life was like a missing page from the Bible! This man was truly like everyone's father when they came to the CRC, like Abraham!! This passing is profound, and graceful, and monumental! If my tears have filled a thimble, there must be thousands of thimble fulls out there to pour into one huge bat of wonderful memories, and so many thank you's, and so many lives that are serving the Lord because of this one, who was obedient. May we all strive to surrender our own lives, and follow Christ as he so profoundly did! We will see him again, along with so many other awaiting us, stay close to the Lord, and never take one day for granted, you never know how much your life can mean to another soul! ~Maggie Taneous (Sinclair)

Allen used to announce and be amused about me riding my bike from Portland to the center there and I would always think that it was always a reward waiting up there when I would arrive on my bicycle. Allen and Eunice had a dream as we all should and really lived it out and now he is at home his dream will be lived out through a lot of people including myself and family. He was a man who followed the ways of the Lord and there was no self to get in the way of that. Allen you were a big impact on me and I will miss you but I am assured that I will catch up to you in a little while in heaven for like the word says we are but a vapor in the wind and life goes fast but if lived right again I am assured it will be eternal. Jeff Wright

Allan and Eunice Hansen have been two of the most encouraging people in my life going back to the early 70's when we, together, started Renewal House. Once I visited Hansens in their beautiful Garden Grove ranch house and was shown the special room they had built on to their house...just so they would have a room for a person who needed a place to stay! I remember thinking that was an incredible thing for them to do. Some weeks later, turning on to a wrong street in LA, I discovered the big mansion that became Renewal House. Allan and Eunice moved from their beautiful home to one-half of the mansion's billiard room and that became their bedroom; their little private space. For years they reached out to hurting men and women whose lives had been wrecked by drugs. Renewal House became the first Lutheran-based drug rehabilitation center in America; maybe the world. Dave and Barb Anderson

Although we are sad at Grandpa Allan's passing for our sakes, we rejoice that he is present with the Lord Jesus...and that he was not in pain. What a tremendous blessing God gave him and all of you, that his going was so simple and amid such peace. That is fitting, for such a faihful servant of the Lord as he. Beth Fleisher

Allan was like a father figure to me during the summer camps I attended with my grandchildren and like a grandfather to them. He baptized both of them in the creek and what wonderful memories we have of that special time and all the other times at CRC summer camps. What a beautiful legacy Pastor Allen leaves and what a mighty man of God he was and will always remain in our hearts. I'm writing this with tears of gratitude and joy. Love to you all, Jody Blanton and Donevan and Kasondra Karr

I FIRST WENT TO THE CRC IN 1978 FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER & FOR 31 YEARS NOW,WOW!MY LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU IS SO STRONG & I LOVE ALL OF YOU HANSEN'S. Sandy and Harrington

We are so happy that Alan was completely healed, God's way today, as he entered into the courts of Heaven! We can see him in our mind's eye, dancing before his wonderful Lord Jesus on the streets of gold, there in Heaven!
We love you so much, Alan and we, who know Jesus, will all be joining you soon! Gary and Linda Palmer

I met Allan and Eunice Hansen 32 years ago, when I was 22. Of all the people I have ever known, they have been my greatest inspiration. They have been good and faithful servants to the Lord and have touched the lives of countless people. I count it an honor to have known them, as I know so many others do too. Deborah Dombrowski
