Darryl and JoAnn Morrison
We are excited to have Darryl and JoAnn Morrison as the guest speakers for our Memorial Day Weekend retreat!
A former NFL football player for the Washington Redskins, Darryl Morrison, has been in full-time ministry for over 25 years. Raised in Phoenix, he attended the University of Arizona, where he earned a BA in Psychology. In October of 1993, Darryl prayed the prayer of salvation and surrendered his life to Jesus as Lord in his basement with his team chaplain. Darryl suffered a career-ending neck injury in 1996 after 4 seasons in the NFL. He would go on to work 5 years in corporate America before accepting the call to full-time ministry. Darryl served as a campus minister at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, and Howard University in Washington, D.C. He also served for 14 years as the associate pastor at Grace Covenant Church in Washington, D.C., before following the Lord’s call to return to Phoenix and plant Valley Gate Church, a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church. Now in its 10th year, Valley Gate has an average attendance of 300 weekly and has seen over 100 people make a public declaration of faith through water baptism.
Daryl and his wife, Jo Ann, met in High School and married their senior year in college. Together, they have raised five wonderful children. Darryl says, "Everything that’s been birthed through us has been birthed in prayer. Our daughter Faith was born after we were told we couldn't have children. She leads the prayer ministry at the church. Samuel is our Youth Director. Grace and Naomi are both married and live in Charlotte, NC, and Seattle, WA. Our youngest son, Benjamin, plays football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but only after two surgeries and overcoming those challenges through prayer." Jo Ann leads the women’s ministry as Director of Engagement at Valley Gate.
"We've faced lots of challenges in ministry, but God has poured out His joy, and matured us in the process. I'm falling in love with people like never before, and I'm seeing that love spread in those around us. We're excited about how God is using us to bring people together to advance God's Kingdom in the Valley of the Sun."
