CRC Men's Retreat

Menu

March 17 - 19 with Pastor Dee Duke

Pastor Dee DukePastor Dee Duke grew up in the Northwest and graduated from Western Baptist College (now Corban University) in Salem, Oregon. He has since earned a Master's Degree and honorary doctorate.

Pastor Duke came to the small rural community of Jefferson 32 years ago to pastor the Jefferson Baptist Church. At that time, the congregation of about 25 members was meeting in the local City Hall. The church was able to move to the Elementary School and then purchased its own land on which to build. All of the buildings were built on a cash basis with volunteer labor from the congregation. Currently, the church has an average attendance of 900 people in three weekend services.

In addition, over the last seven years, Jefferson Baptist has started three daughter churches: AGAPE Family Fellowship in Albany, Turning Point Com. Church in Turner, and Doxology in Corvallis.

Pastor Duke attributes the growth of the church to its emphasis on prayer. In 1989 he attended his first Pastors' Prayer Summit and has since modeled and preached the importance of individual and corporate prayer. He has had the opportunity to speak throughout the United States as well as travel overseas to speak and participate in several Prayer Seminars and Prayer Walking Journeys. He has written articles for Moody Monthly, Leadership Journal and Pray! Magazine, and has written a book, entitled Prayer Quest. He also speaks on a daily radio program. His messages will center around the power and effectiveness of corporate and individual prayer.

Retreat begins on evening with dinner at 6:30; retreat ends after lunch on Sunday.
Registration on Friday between 5:00-6:30pm at the Lamppost.
Suggested donation: (2 nights, 6 meals): $120/person. Deposit $30. Click here to Register.

“Resolution One: I will live for God. Resolution Two: If no one else does, I still will.”  – Jonathan Edwards

“I pray that the Lord might crown this year with His goodness and in the coming one give you a hallowed dare-devil spirit in lifting the biting sword of Truth, consuming you with a passion that is called by the cultured citizen of Christendom ‘fanaticism’, but known to God as that saintly madness that led His Son through bloody sweat and hot tears to agony on a rude Cross - and Glory!” – Jim Elliot

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.” -Titus 2:3 (NASB)

Group Terms and Conditions

Menu
Placing your registration:

You may request a reservation for your group's retreat on the Group Registration Form page. Once your Dates and Buildings request has been confirmed, you may pay your deposit. Deposits can be paid by mailing CRC a check, or by using our payment option on the website. Your deposit applies to your total bill. In most cases, your deposit is non-refundable in the event that you cancel your reservation.
Full payment is due by the end of your retreat.

Responsibility to pay for the minimum number of people:

You are responsible to pay for the minimum number of guests you have reserved for, regardless of whether or not your group meets that minimum. Minimum occupancies are based on the total number of individual single and double beds in each building. The recommended maximum occupancies are based on each double bed being filled by two people. "Day Use Only" guests are not counted as part of the minimum occupancy. They pay only for their meals and a $7 day-use fee.

Reserving more space:

Please reserve only as much space as you are sure you can fill. Place your reservation based on your lowest possible estimate of the final attendance. We are almost always able to find additional space for groups whose numbers increase.

Reducing your minimum number:

Reservation dates and buildings should be considered final. However, if previously unforeseen circumstances cause you to be unable to meet your minimum number, it may be possible to release a building, move to a smaller building, or even reschedule your reservation to a different date. You must do this at least 90 days prior to your reserved dates in order to allow us to re-book this space. If you have a significant change in the number of people coming (whether a decrease or increase), please contact us immediately.

Your Final Count:

Please call or e-mail us the Tuesday before your retreat to notify us of your final count.

Items to bring:

Sleeping bag or warm bedding, pillows, towels, rainwear, and a flashlight.

Frequently asked Questions:

How do you provide for those with food allergies or special diets?

There are two options:
1. If you have a few things you cannot eat, contact our kitchen at least one week prior to your stay and tell us what your allergies/restrictions are so that we can prepare special entrees for you.
2. If you have many dietary restrictions, contact us to let us know that you would like to bring your own prepared entrees and heat them up in our kitchen's microwave. This option is limited to 1-2 people per weekend.

When can we ride the cable swings?

Any time. Just check the key out from the kitchen and follow the rules posted at the swings. Return the keys as soon as you are done for others to use.

When can we ride the zipline?

Saturday afternoon is usually best, although other times can be arranged. Let us know what time you would like to ride it and we will send a staff member up to the zipline with you. You must provide an adult who will be instructed how to catch people at the other end of the ride and help them out of the safety harness.

A few additional notes:

NO animals please
NO alcohol (except Communion Wine)

NO Eastern Meditative/Exercise Practices (i.e. Yoga, Tai Chi, Taize, Reiki, etc.)
NO fireworks
NO guns without permission

About Personal Retreats

Menu

What You Need to Know About Personal Retreats at CRC

Reservations
Personal retreats should be scheduled 1 week to 1 month in advance. (More) (Less)
Since these retreats are offered on a donation basis, we wait until we are pretty sure that we won't have a guest group using that building or room before we offer it for personal retreat. Once in a great while, we receive a group reservation  just a week or two before the date. If that happens, we will notify you that we had to cancel your reservation and refund your deposit. If you wish, you can reschedule it for another time.
Cost
Personal Retreats are offered on a donation basis. We do this so that no one will be prohibited from coming for lack of funds. (More) (Less)
We simply ask our guests to pray about what should give and follow God's leading. We ask for a deposit of $25 per retreat when registering to ensure that the space we prepare and reserve  will actually be used. Your deposit and donation can be made with cash, check or card.
Lodging
There are three basic options for your stay: rustic solitude, close-in & comfortable and community. Please bring your own bedding, towels and personal toiletries for all three options. (More) (Less)

Rustic Solitude
In this category are our two  Cabins. Each cabin has three beds. The Matthew/Mark cabin is a duplex with two single rooms and separate entrances.  The Luke cabin has two rooms,  a bedroom and a  living room with a couch and a wood stove. Each cabin has electric heat, beds, and a desk, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. Sinks, toilets and showers are located 50' away in the shower house. The cabins are especially popular with guests who are looking for maximum solitude.

Close-In & Comfortable
This describes the rooms Love and Goodness downstairs in the  Main Lodge,  with two beds each and the larger five-bed Trinity House Upstairs. Each of these rooms have in-suite bathrooms as well as a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee pot.

Community
This describes the six two-bed rooms in the Hilltop Lodge. The three wings are semi-private, as they share the living area at the center of the Lodge. This has a built-in  a wood fireplace, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. Depending on the number of guests, you will have either a room or a wing to yourself. Each room is separated its adjoining room by a walk-through half-bath. Showers are available at the nearby shower house.

Lodging options are offered on a first come, first served basis. Priority is given to our sponsored events and guest group retreats. Some options or rooms may not be available on the dates you wish to come. Other rooms may be available. Ask our registrar for details.

To Fast or Not...
While many of our guests choose to fast during their retreat, you are welcome to join the CRC staff and our guest group retreats for all regularly scheduled meals. For all other meals you will be on your own. (More) (Less)
Our personal retreat cabins and rooms are equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee pot so you can bring food and make simple meals if you wish. You may enjoy driving over to South Falls (3 miles) or down to the Country Store (5 miles) or into Silverton (15 miles) for a meal. Silverton has restaurants ranging from fast-food to high-end.
Regularly Scheduled Meals and Times
Our staff normally gathers in the Main Lodge dining room at 12:30 pm Tuesday-Friday for lunch. On weekends we usually serve the following meals at these times: (More) (Less)
  • Friday Dinner           6:30 pm
  • Saturday Breakfast 8:00 am
  • Saturday Lunch       12:30 pm
  • Saturday Dinner      5:30 pm
  • Sunday Breakfast    8:00 am
  • Sunday Lunch          12:30 pm

You are welcome to join any or all of these meals. Meals and meal times vary somewhat from week to week, so please tell our registrar which meals you would like to eat and she will confirm if they will be served during your stay.

The Prayer Chapels
Two buildings are set aside for day use in personal or small group prayer at CRC. (More) (Less)

The Victory Chapel can hold 4-6 people. The Prayer Hut is a 1-2 person "A Frame." Guests are welcome to use either of these buildings.

Personal Retreats - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What You Need to Know About Personal Retreats at CRC

Q: Do you offer a Sunday morning service?
A: No, we do not. (More) (Less)
Instead we encourage our guests who wish to attend a Sunday morning worship service to attend a fellowship in the Silverton area. If you wish to visit any of the great local churches our staff attend, just let us know.
Q: Do you have any other meetings I can join?
A: Yes. (More) (Less)
We would be delighted to have you join our 8:00-9:00 am morning prayer in the Lamppost Coffee Shop or our mid-day staff devotions immediately after lunch from 1:00-1:30 pm.
Q: May I join the meetings of any of the Christian groups on retreat at CRC?
A: Yes, but only if you are personally invited by the leader of that group.
Q: Can I get cell phone/data reception?
A: Sorry, we are out of range. (More) (Less)
AT&T phones can get reception two miles away at South Falls. If you need to make a call you are welcome to use the phone in our front office. We have unlimited long distance, so there is no need to pay for calls.
Q: Do you have Wi-Fi?
A: No, not really. (More) (Less)
A "Ministry Critical" password protected connection is available in the Main Lodge dining room. If you need to access the internet for something directly related to your personal retreat we are happy to give you the password. Otherwise we encourage our guests to take a vacation from the internet during their stay.
Q: Do you have televisions and media players?
A: No, we do not. (More) (Less)
You may bring your own portable video player and media if you like. We do not have network or cable TV reception...and we like it that way.
Q: How many friends or family members can I bring with me?
A: One nuclear family or a maximum of five friends. Click here to view our rates for groups larger than this.

Notes for Worship Leaders

Menu

Notes for Worship Leaders: Sound and video equipment available in each building.

All of our buildings either have, or can have, a sound system. These systems cover the needs of about 80-90% of our guest groups. If you need more sound reinforcement than we offer for your retreat event you are welcome to bring your own equipment. We do our best to label all of our mics, stands, cords, etc. but we need your help to make sure our equipment doesn't go home with you by accident. Worship teams may use the 1/4" inputs on the amplifier for a guitar or electric piano instead of a mic. Please do not plug a bass guitar into the amp.

ROTUNDA - Notes: The Rotunda a fairly "live" building acoustically. The surrounding windows, round shape and the normal semi-circle seating arrangement all combine to make voice amplification for soft-spoken speakers a nice option, but not an absolute necessity. For worship teams the 4 channel mixer/amp covers the needs of most groups.

Piano: Spinet upright
Amp: A Four Channel Mixer & Amplifier with two speakers.
Microphones & Stands: Up to 4 microphones and 4 stands. We normally place one boom mic at the podium, one boom mic at the piano and up to two more in front for singers.
Overhead Projector on rolling cart.
Video Projector: Ceiling mounted Video projector (VGA)
Screen: 5' square semi-permanent reflective screen

GOOD SHEPHERD LODGE - Many groups find little or no need for sound amplification in Good Shepherd. Exceptions to this are: 1. If the pianist will be leading singing, it may be helpful to mic him since his back is to the audience. 2. If there will be over 40 people meeting upstairs.

Piano: Full Sized Upright
Audio: A six channel Mixer & Amplifier with two speakers
Microphones & Stands: 2 microphones and 2 stands. Additional mics and stands available on request.
Overhead Projector: Stored upstairs.
Video Projector: Portable video projector on a rolling cart. (VGA)
Screen: 4'x8' melamine wall mounted screen.

HERITAGE LODGE- very cozy, never needs amplification for voice.

Piano: 3/4 electric keyboard
Overhead Projector: Available on request.
Screen: 7'x7' cloth wall mounted screen.
Video Projector: A portable video projector with or without a separate portable sound system may be available on request.

PRAYER CHAPEL - seats up to 40. Rarely needs amplification for voice. The two channel monitor amp offers basic amplification for recorded music but no mixing ability.

Piano: Full Sized Upright
Audio: A 2 channel monitor amplifier with two floor monitor speakers
Microphone & Stand: 1 microphones and 1 stand. You may request an additional mic and stand.
Overhead Projector: Stored behind the piano.
Screen: 6' square portable reflective screen stored in closet
Video Projector: A portable video projector with or without a separate portable sound system may be available on request.

Technology FAQs

Menu

Cell reception, Emergency calls, Wi-Fi, Video Projection, T.V, & MP3 - FAQs

Q: Can I get cell phone reception?
A: No. We are out of cell range. Sprint cell phones only can get reception two miles away at South Falls. If you need to make a call you are welcome to use the phone in our front office. We have unlimited long distance so there is no need to pay for calls.

Emergency calls

Q: What number can I give family members if they need to contact me while at CRC?
A: 503-873-6743 rings in the Main Lodge front office and in our kitchen. This is the best number for them to call from 6 am to 8 pm.

Q: Is there an number for serious emergencies before and after those hours?
A: Yes. 503-873-7743 rings at CRC Directors Tim & Julie Hansen's home. If a family member needs to contact you for a true emergency in the middle of the night they can call this number. If we do not answer it, just call again until you wake us. Calls go to voice mail after 5-6 rings. If you anticipate a potential need to be contacted in the middle of the night, please communicate ahead of time to your family the name of your group, the name of your building and the location and name of your room so that we do not have to wake the entire camp to find you.

Q: What if I need to make a 911 or other emergency call from CRC in the middle of the night?
A: The Main Lodge office is locked at night. However, the phones in the Main Lodge kitchen and at the Lamppost Bookstore are always available.

Wi-Fi

Q: Do you have Wi-Fi?
A: No, not really. A "Ministry Critical" password protected connection is available in the Main Lodge dining room. If you need to access the internet for something directly related to your retreat we are happy to give you the password. Otherwise we encourage our guests to avoid the internet during their stay.

Video and Movie Projection, T.V, DVD, etc.

Q: Do you have televisions and DVD / VHS players?
A: Yes. Heritage, Good Shepherd, and the Prayer Chapel all have 17"-22" diagonals screen TVs with DVD and VHS combo players. Let us know if you need one in another building or room and we will set it up for you. Please note: We do not have network or cable TV reception...and we like it that way. :-)

Q: Do you have a Blue Ray Player?
A: Sorry, we do not. You will need to bring your own.

Q: Do you have a video projector I can connect my laptop to? I don't need sound.
A: Yes! The Rotunda and Good Shepherd Lodge both have video projectors.

Q: I want to show a movie with a sound track on your video projector. What do I do?
A: Please let us know if you need sound with the video projector so we can set up the connection to the amplifier and speakers ahead of time.

Q: Can we use the video projectors in daylight?
A: Yes, however, the image is subject to some "wash out" on bright, sunny days. Good Shepherd has curtains for the windows, but the Rotunda, Heritage and the Prayer Chapel do not.

Q: Can I have a video projector for the Prayer Chapel, Heritage Lodge or other room?
A: Maybe. We have only two video projectors, and you may request one of these. If it is available, we will set it up in your building. Otherwise, you will need to bring your own.

Q: What kind of cord do I need?
A: Most laptops have a standard 15 pin female VGA monitor plug in the side. We have the necessary cords to attach to this plug.

Q: What if I have a Mac (Apple) laptop or an i-pad, etc.?
A: We have adaptors for the Mini Display and Mini DVI style outputs only. Please check your Apple product to make sure you have this style of connector, otherwise you will need to supply your own adapter to plug into a male 15 pin VGA video cable.

MP3, CDs

Q: Can I play music from my i-pod or MP3 player through the sound system?
A: Yes! We have the standard 1/4" mini headphone jacks that plug into these players with our amplifiers in each building.

Q: Do you have a portable CD player we can use to play music on?
A: Yes, we have two of these. CDs can also be played on the DVD players
